COVID-19: What You Need to Know about Dental Care

Home » Blog » COVID-19: What You Need to Know about Dental Care

With the growing health concern surrounding COVID19, our team at myDental is working hard to stay current with recommendations from the CDC, ADA, government mandates, and other health organizations. Our priority is in maintaining the health and safety of our patients and staff members.

On March 22, 2020, Governor Greg Abbott shared an executive order for all health care professionals in the state regarding the services that can be offered during this time. We are to only perform “immediately medically necessary” procedures for “serious medical conditions” or “to preserve the life” until May 9, 2020.

These instructions are designed to ensure medical equipment and personal protective gear is available for the hospitals caring for COVID-19 patients. Additionally, pausing non-urgent medical services reduces the likelihood of the virus spreading between patients and care providers.

How Our Offices are Affected

Most, if not all, procedures we perform in our practices do not fall under this category. As a result, we have closed our practices; however, we are still attending phone calls and assisting patients as much as we can.

Here is what you need to know about how the Coronavirus is affecting dental care:

  • Future Appointments: Any non-emergency dental treatments can be rescheduled in the future, such as exams, cleanings, cosmetic procedures, etc.
  • Emergency Services: While general dental care has been postponed, emergency services are still available if they fall under the above guidelines. If you are experiencing a dental emergency, then please call us as soon as possible to determine the best course of action for your situation.
  • Support Via Phone: Our team is still available by phone and ready to answer your questions if you have any dental health concerns. We are doing everything that we can to assist our patients. If you need to talk to a dentist, then don’t hesitate to call.
  • Infection Control Protocols: When services resume, you can feel good knowing that we maintain high standards regarding the cleanliness and safety of our offices. These protocols are already in place, with an increased effort for more frequent disinfection of surfaces in the office, including door handles, lobby, dental chairs, armrests, and any other surfaces that staff and patients may come in contact with. Our team is following every precaution to give you the peace of mind in knowing that the offices are clean and healthy.
